Websites I have designed

Over the years I have used several different programs to craft websites. Early on I used Microsoft Frontpage and the Allaire HomeSite ver 2. HomeSite helped me work on my html skills and after a while I realized that FrontPage was not the best at designing websites.

Up to recently, everything I did was plain vanilla. That was until I was offered to be the webmaster of my company's site. I quickly dove back into web design and found myself using the old familiar Homesite ver 5. The webmasters before me used Frontpage and many of the pages were a mess and wouldn't pass W3C validation. So off to work I went and cleaned up the whole site. This is where I really learned server side includes and scripting (mostly asp). I also began playing around with databases and was able to integrate them into a few sections of the website. This single addition made the some of the everyday maintenance very easy.

So now I am using Dreamweaver CS3 at work and HTMLPad Pro 2006 at home. I found this program very good and simple to use. It is very similar to HomeSite but is a little cheaper. I have also used Nvu and found the code it output to be garbage. It is a nice program but with development stalled I am going to pass. Below are the active websites that you can take a look at.

This is my sons Boy Scout Troop's website that I built using the generic template that comes with Dreamweaver and then heavily modifying it to match the scout colors. This website uses several techniques including php and javascript. For the upcoming events section of the sidebar, I am using an flat file database (xml).

Cub Scout Pack 229 is a brand new pack that is starting in the fall of 2007. We have a charter organization and a great meeting place. This website is just a start. We will be adding on to it as we become a little bigger and eventually will purchase a domain name. For now, this site is hosted at JustFiveDays.com.

The The Calvary Episcopal website has been updated again. The new site has a completely new look and is now using a database backend for parts of it. We have designed it to be even more user friendly as well as more informational for newcomers. I hope you enjoy using the site as much as I enjoyed building it.

The Mussomelese Society of Western New York website was a quick project for my boss's church. (I seem to have a thing for church websites.) I do very little work with this site. Again, I used a nice simple and clean template from the Open Source Web Design website. There are no real bells and whistles used with this site with the exception of server side includes via asp.

The Tree Wizard is our families business website and is currently undergoing a major rewrite. No work has been performed on this site for a few years and it is in some desperate need of TLC. Check back here is the spring if you are interested in seeing our new digs.

The Valu Home Centers website is by far the most active site I work on. Last year I rewrote the whole site based on designs from our advertising firm and to correlate with our new advertising slogan. The goal was to make it more accessible and easier to navigate. Flash has been integrated into the home page as well as the ad pages. Depending on the time of the year, the home page also features a JQuery rotator. I also ditched the MS Access db files for the slimmer and faster xml file.
