The Storm of the Year
Well maybe this isn't the storm of the year since we haven't even made winter yet but it makes you wonder. We are supposed to have a mild winter this year due to the "El Nino", but that typically means a bunch of lake effect snow from Lake Erie. Check out some of the pictures from our little "surprise" storm!

The Beginning of the Storm
Around noon on Thursday October 12, 2006.
Snow was beginning to fall.
The End of the Storm
This is the top of our garage with wires "very" low. Our power lines were detached
and our phone and cable lines were sagging but still connected. We don't know how.
This picture was taken from behind our garage. You can see the amount of limbs that
fell from our neighbors yard and what actually took down our lines.
This is a picture of the actual limb that took out our power. It was around 6" in diameter.
Our lilac bush is looking pretty bad with all of the heavy, wet snow. We are glad to say
that it is now doing very well.
This shot is of a tree in our neighbors front yard. It looked worse for wear but it should survive.
The silver maple in our front yard took a beating. We estimate that around 60% of the tree
was damaged from the storm.
This is another picture of the silver maple.
Two days after the Storm
Our back yard was littered with branches. Wait, where is the snow?
A nice pile of branches mostly from the silver maple.
When you prune, you should remove no more than 30% of the branches.
This is what around 60% loss looks like.
This is another pile with the help of our neighbors. What a way to rake this fall!
